/ The Story Of Sanjika / A Family Farm

There’s a certain magic that takes hold the moment you enter the indigenous forest on Sanjika Farm – a feeling that’s hard to describe but impossible to forget. It was this very sense of wonder that inspired the Raath family to open their off-the-grid sanctuary to others. They knew that what they had created at Sanjika was too special to keep to themselves.

The Raath family – Susan, Jaco, Ciska and Elsa – spent several years in Malawi. It was during this time where the vision for a lifestyle farm first began to take shape. The name Sanjika is inspired by the official Presidential Palace of Malawi, which has been the seat of government since 1983. Jaco was so taken by the grandeur of Sanjika Palace that he dreamed of creating his own version of it – one rooted in nature, family and hospitality.

“My dad always said that if he ever farmed again, his farm would be his palace. And that is how our Sanjika Palace was born.” – ELSA

For the Raath family, Malawi left a lasting mark, shaping their worldview and their dreams. Today, echoes of that Malawian influence can be seen throughout the farm, especially in the Boshuis and Boomhuis, where Malawian cane and handcrafted furniture bring a touch of central Africa to the experience.

Sanjika is more than a name or a place to stay; it’s a tribute to heritage, a symbol of aspiration, and a magical story shared with every guest who visits.

Just 15 minutes from the airport, you’ll find yourself in a blissful world that feels far removed from the rush of everyday life – easily accessible, yet wonderfully secluded. Here, guests can truly reconnect with nature, loved ones, and themselves. And when it’s time to return to the world, it’s only a short drive away. This is part of the Sanjika magic the Raath family is proud to share.
