Unwind at Sanjika’s Freshwater Dam

Swimming, Canoeing + Sundowners

There’s something about the stillness
of calm waters that gently restores,
brings deep contentment
and presses reset on the soul.

At Sanjika Farm, we’re proud to share our incredible freshwater dam – an inviting space for pure relaxation, carefree fun and the effortless luxury of nature. Surrounded by lush green grass fields and set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains, this dam is expansive and serene. Take a deep breath of crisp mountain air and immerse yourself in the energy and tranquility of these idyllic waters. It simply is nature, unfiltered – and yours to enjoy.

Whether you’re diving in for a refreshing swim, gliding across the water in a canoe, or enjoying a picnic as the sun sets in golden hues – this freshwater dam offers meaningful moments of escape from the demands of everyday life.

How To Get To The Dam
Grab the swimming towels in the basket in your room and take a gentle stroll to the dam – just follow the signs you passed on your way to Boshuis and Boomhuis. Slip through the pedestrian gate and wander beneath the trees, where a quiet path will lead you to the jetty and the still, adventurous waters beyond.

Swimming + Fishing
There’s something undeniably refreshing about swimming in a dam – the cool, clear water against your skin during a cold plunge in the winter, the soft ripple of nature all around and the sense of calm that comes with every stroke in the warm summery waters. Unlike a pool, it’s untamed and alive, with a lane rope of approximately 70 metres. The dark waters may seem mysterious, but there’s nothing to fear – just a few curious fish sharing the serenity with you. This natural vastness offers a kind of freedom that brings a renewed sense of clarity. It’s not just a swim – it’s a reconnection to something real and grounding.

If you’re an eager fisherman, bring your gear along – our dam is fully stocked with black bass, perfect for a peaceful catch-and-release experience. Cast your line and soak in the stillness of farm life as you wait for a bite.

  • Note | Enter the dam area at your own risk and only if you can swim. Although some monkeys might stand on the side watching, there is no trained lifeguard on duty.

Canoeing + Paddle Boarding
Gliding across the dam’s still waters on a canoe or stand-up paddleboard is a deeply rejuvenating experience. Each gentle movement connects you to the rhythm of nature, surrounded by open sky, quiet mountain reflections, and the singing of birds. It’s a slow, mindful adventure – where balance, breath, and beauty come together to recharge your body and clear your mind.

  • Note | You’ll find the canoes and stand-up paddleboards waiting for you on the dam’s edge – yours to enjoy at your leisure. We kindly ask that you return them to the bank when you’re done, so others can enjoy them too.

Sundowners + Picnic Lunches
Nestled on the serene bank of the dam, a secluded table and benches await – perfect for enjoying a peaceful picnic lunch or sipping on glorious sundowners as the day fades. This is a memorable and quiet spot to disentangle, take in the restfulness of the fresh water, and embrace the beauty of slowing down.

  • Note | This is the perfect spot to savour that delicious, wood-fired pizza you so lovingly crafted, or to dip one of our complimentary farm-baked rusks into a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Surrounded by the soft whisper of trees and golden reflections dancing on the water’s surface, make the best of your Sanjika experience when unwinding at our freshwater dam.
